I want God to play in my bloodstream like sunlight amuses itself on water.

That's just one of the dozens of sentences that have stopped me in my tracks as I listen to Elizabeth Gilbert reading her book, Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia.

By all means, get the audiobook. Gilbert has a gorgeous voice and she infuses her reading with humor, vitality, and pathos. I am in love with this woman.

While we're on the topic of play, here's a wonderful quote from Mechtild of Magdeburg, which my spiritual director shared with me that last time we met:

I, God, am your playmate!
I will lead the child in you
in wonderful ways
for I have chosen you
