Is It Time to Be Disappointing?

We're used to thinking of disappointing others as a bad thing. But is it always?

Hi Molly,
I am not able to view the video - I don't know if it's something I'm missing or if something is wrong with the video. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Sharon

Hey Molly,
Ditto Sharon. Seems to be a missing link here.
Look forward to viewing it when it's up and running.
Cheers,

Hi Molly,
Me too! I haven't received a friend request from you, but I would accept. Would like to see the video. Is this what you meant by being disappointing? I always look forward to your posts.
cheers,
Sharon

Molly, What a gift you are! Thank you for your wonderfull videos...you are a joy and inspiration to see and hear. Love, Jilly

Molly, was this video marked private "accidently on purpose" so you could give us a real life demonstration of being disappointing LOL If not it's a pretty funny, ironic coincidence! :)

No matter, I loved what you had to say. I put a lot of pressure on myself to never disappoint, and that goes along with not being able to say "no" when someone asks me to do a task I either simple don't want to do or know that I realistically don't have the time to do.

But in the end you are correct, we simply must be honest with ourselves and others. Perhaps we're not kind enough to ourselves and don't give others enough credit to adapt and handle the situation.

I always appreciate your widsom. Thanks for sharing.

Your video/talk truly helped me get back to work in a better mood this morning! It was like having a calming friend in my studio. Looking forward to your upcoming posts.

Hi Molly,
The video came through fine for me. Thank you for the permission to be disappointing. I think that so many of us in the helping/healing/coaching world feel like we can't be disappointing because it is a bad thing. I loved your take on the positives of not only being disappointing, but also just accepting it as part of yourself.

Posted by: Jen at March 20, 2009 12:28 PM

Hi Molly - Amen! I can SO relate to your experiences -- including the Palm/Computer calendar sync! How funny! However, thank you for the encouragement to allow myself to be who I am right now, in spite of my changing life, and not to beat myself up for it. I know firsthand about the additional burden of stress from 'punishing' myself.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Molly

A positive take on being disappointing to others - would love to see your thoughts on being disappointed by others!

Loved the 'set' as well - especially the daffodils - it is Autumn in Australia - so we will be waiting awhile for those lovely cheery flowers!

Bless-sings

Tee hee.

I wish I could claim the foresight to have deliberately made the video private. And I do love that my oversight coincided with this particular topic.

Melody: when it comes to being disappointed by others, I find I have three basic reactions:

-- Satisfaction. As I said in the video, I confess that I enjoy feeling superior when someone disappoints me. (Isn't that disappointing?)

-- Anger, resentment. Yup. It happens. And ,a href="http://www.thework.com" target="main" target = "blank">The Work of Byron Katie is the perennial remedy.

The set is my beloved office cum studio. And aren't daffodils the best?

Love to all,

Molly

Molly
Thank you so much for this. I am in the thick of perimenopausal haze right now, and as such, my sense of time and my memory have just gone to...???

On the positive side, while I cannot trust myself to remember things like I used to, nor can I trust myself to keep track of things as I used to, I am finding that my creativity and intuition are opening up like never before.

Still haven't quite figured out how to make all of this work for me yet. But I figure I am learning something in all this, and if I focus on that as my main task, then I am much less uncomfortable than if I trying to push to behave a certain way that I seem to be incapable of, at least right now.
