Self Employment TV: Free Stuff, Should You Give It?
For those who prefer reading to watching: Free stuff can demonstrate your expertise, build relationships, and help you practice your craft. But it can't pay the bills, generate commitment on the part of a client, or allow you to spend time developing new work.
There's a time and place for free. And you should promote your work to the people who want your free stuff. They don't have to buy, but you do have to give them the chance. (That's part of your job.)

I am completely in love with your Self Employment TV series...especially this episode which grabbed me by the head/heart and won't let me go:-) The victim story that I've been wallowing around in centers around an annoying "work/famine" theme after having experienced more than a year of unemployment without a "real-job-paycheck". Viewing and really listening to you tonight took my breath away - intuitively when that happens, I know to pay attention! It is time for me to reread your book, meditate and trust myself for what's next on my own entrepreneurial journey. Thanks, Molly, for sharing, inspiring, coaching and teaching so honestly and generously.
Peace -

Dahna, what a lovely comment to wake up to. I hope you have a buddy or support group to work with. It makes all the difference when working through things like pricing, marketing, what to give for free, etc. Not that the group has the answers, but it sure helps keep you in the process until you get what you are aiming for.
And, of course, one such group is Shaboom County. I think you are/were a member, and I'd love to support you there.
